The legislature wrapped-up the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, but not before several appropriations for local projects were added.

The House and Senate approved a plan making reforms to the retirement system for public school employees.

The ballot proposal seeking to enact a part-time legislature didn’t receive approval, or disapproval, from the State Board of Canvassers.  However, they don’t technically need that approval and they will move forward with collecting signatures.

The State of the Great Lakes highlights report was released, showing that while the lakes are in fair shape, there is a lot of work to be done in dealing with invasive species.

Governor Snyder made his recommendation to head up the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.  The executive committee is meeting July 11 to consider that recommendation.
