According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March declined by two-tenths of a percentage point to 5.1%. During the month, total employment increased by 17,000 and the number of unemployed declined by 11,000. The March 2017 rate is two-tenths of a percentage point higher than the March 2016 rate.
The March 2017 seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market was 5.6%, a decline of three-tenths of a percentage point below the prior month. Additionally, the rate is two-tenths of a percentage point higher than the March 2016 rate.
