According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, Michigan’s October unemployment rate was 4.7%, an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point from the prior month. While the month-to-month rate increased, the rate was four-tenths of a percentage point lower than the October 2015 rate. During the month of October 2016, the workforce grew by 22,000, total employment increased by 14,000, and the number of unemployed increased by 8,000.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn labor market, the October 2016 unemployment rate was 5.3%, an increase of two-tenths of a percentage point from the prior month. However, the rate is six-tenths of a percentage point lower than October 2015.
