General Election Overview: 91st House District

Oct 18, 2016

Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).

District Overview

The 91st House District includes a portion of Muskegon County.  The district has a 51% Republican base.

Commentary

In a back-and-forth election match, incumbent Representative Holly Hughes (R-White River Township) and Colleen Lamonte have faced off in the past two elections, with Ms. Lamonte beating then-incumbent Representative Hughes in 2012 and Representative Hughes regaining this seat in 2014.  Both parties desperately want to have this seat in their control and it will be a battle to watch in November.

This past term in office, Representative Hughes has served as vice chair of the Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs and is a member of the committees on Energy Policy, Health Policy, and Commerce and Trade.
