Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).
District Overview
The 104th House District is located in Grand Traverse County. The district has a 60% Republican base.
Commentary
Representative Larry Inman (R-Williamsburg) is running for his second term in office. While the district has a strong Republican base, the Democratic candidate won 46% of the vote in 2014. Democratic candidate, Betsy Coffia, unsuccessfully ran for this seat in 2012 and 2014. Additionally, insiders are monitoring whether the Libertarian Candidate could take too many votes away from Rep. Inman.
During his first term in office, Representative Inman has chaired the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and serves as vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Department of Natural Resources. He is also a member of the Appropriations Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Community Colleges.
