Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).
District Overview
The 108th District is located in the Upper Peninsula and includes the counties of Delta, Dickinson, and Menominee. The district has a 52% Republican base.
Commentary
The Upper Peninsula has been a traditional stronghold for the Democratic caucus, but the 2010 Republican wave brought in Representative Ed McBroom, who is term limited from running again this November. The Democratic candidate seeking to replace McBroom has served as the Dickinson County Sheriff since 2008, providing him campaigning experience and name recognition, while his rival doesn’t have experience running for public office. Republican LaFave is pursuing his Juris Doctorate at Wayne State University Law School, but has put his studies on hold to campaign.
