General Election Overview: 64th House District

Sep 20, 2016

Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).

District Overview
The 64th House District is located in Jackson County.  The district includes the townships of Concord, Hanover, Napoleon, Parma, Pulaski, Sandstone, Spring Arbor, Summit, and the City of Jackson.  The district has a 53% Republican base.

Commentary
Representative Earl Poleski (R-Jackson) is serving his third and final term in office.  The last Democratic legislator to represent this seat was in 2006, during a solid Democratic year.  However, it is seen unlikely that the Democratic candidate will win this seat in November, although a long shot, it is always possible.

Democratic Candidate:

  • Ron Brooks – Reverend.

    • General Endorsement – Michigan AFL-CIO.

Republican Candidate:

  • Julie Alexander – Former teacher, Jackson County Commissioner, small business owner.

    • Primary Endorsements – Michigan Farm Bureau, Michigan Corn Growers Association.
    • General Endorsements – Michigan Restaurant Association, National Federation of Independent Business-Michigan.
