General Election Overview: 103rd House District

Sep 06, 2016

Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).

District Overview

The 103rd House District includes the counties of Crawford, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Ogemaw, and Roscommon.  The district has a 58% Republican base.

Commentary

Representative Bruce Rendon (R-Lake City) can’t run again for the seat due to term limits.  Representative Rendon’s wife, Daire, is the favorite to replace him.  However, it isn’t a sure bet.

Prior to redistricting, the seat was held by two Democratic legislators.  It would be an uphill battle for the Democratic candidate, but not out of the question.

Democratic Candidate:

  • Jordan Stancil – Owner and manager of a local movie theater, former U.S. State Department employee, former international college level teacher.

    • Primary Endorsements – Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, School Administrators Political Action Committee.

Republican Candidate:

  • Daire Rendon – Owner of a financial services and call center providing support to the security industry.

    • Primary Endorsements – Right to Life of Michigan, Michigan Farm Bureau, Small Business Association, Great Lakes Education Project, National Rifle Association, Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
    • General Endorsement – National Federation of Independent Business-Michigan.
