The Michigan Republic Party held their State Convention over the weekend at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids. Nearly 3,000 people gathered for the purpose of selecting nominees for the Michigan Supreme Court, State Board of Education and several University Boards. All but two of the races were uncontested, and those that were contested had been settled after the first round of voting.
Former state Representative Tom McMillin, a specialist in Common Core State Standards, and Nicolette Snyder, a nursing instructor, were unanimously nominated for the State Board of Education.
The Wayne State Board of Governors had five candidates in the running before being narrowed down to two. In the end the nominations were given to Michael Busuito, a plastic surgeon, and Kim Shmina, a nurse practitioner.
