The Michigan Democratic Party also held their State Convention this past weekend, attracting 1,200 attendees to Lansing. Their mission was also to select nominees for the State Supreme Court, State Board of Education and State University Boards. The attendees all seemed to share a common determination to win back the majority in the Michigan Legislature.
The Convention was virtually uncontested, following the withdrawal of Rep. John Stewart from the State Board of Education ticket leaving Ismael Ahmed and John Austin as the two nominees. The nominees running for U of M Board of Regents and MSU Board of Trustees were all incumbents seeking re-election, while the Wayne State University Board had two newcomers in the race. Overall, the Michigan Democratic Party faced an easy task in selecting nominees at this year’s convention.
Please find a full list of nominees below:
State Board of Education – Ismael Ahmed & John Austin
MSU Board of Trustees – Dianne Byrum & Diann Woodward
U of M Board of Regents – Denise Ilitch & Laurence Deitch
Governor of Wayne State University – Yvette Anderson & Mark Gaffney
