Michigan is among thirteen other states to receive funding as part of the Data-Driven Prevention Initiative. Over the course of three years, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will be receiving $2.25 million to address the growing opioid epidemic that is occurring across the state. The money will be used to develop a preventative plan for combatting abuse and overdose.

The initiative will hopefully play a role in diminishing the total of unintentional fatal drug poisoning, a number that saw a four-fold increase from 1999 to 2014.
