Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).
District Overview
The 41st House District is located in Oakland County and includes the cities of Clawson and Troy. The district has a 55% Republican base.
Commentary
While this district has a Republican base, the political winds are changing in Oakland County making this a district to watch in November. In 2012, the last Presidential election year, the Republican candidate narrowly won this seat with 51% of the vote. Given this is another Presidential election year, the race for the seat could tighten.
Representative Martin Howrylak (R-Troy) is running for reelection for his third, and final term and has good name ID after running his first two contentious races. While in the House, he has served as vice chair of both the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and the Oversight and Ethics Committee. Additionally, he serves on the Criminal Justice, Judiciary, and Tax Policy Committees.
