Primary Election Overview: 77th House District

Through the primary election on August 2, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 77^th House District is on the west side of the state and includes a portion of Kent County; including Byron Township and Wyoming. The seat has a 66.14% Republican base.

Commentary

Current Representative Tom Hooker is unable to run for reelection due to term limits. The district is socially conservative and the winner of the Republican primary will have little problem winning in November. Tommy Brann is a well-known restaurateur in the area and is expected to benefit from name recognition and is seen as the leading candidate in the Republican primary.
