This week was the filing deadline for candidates running for the vacant 4th Michigan Senate District seat, which was left vacant in April when former Senator Virgil Smith resigned from the seat. Shortly thereafter his resignation, Governor Rick Snyder called for a special primary election to be held on August 2 and a special general election to be held on November 8. The 4th Senate district encompasses the City of Allen Park, Lincoln Park, Southgate, and a portion of the City of Detroit. “The seat is heavily democratic and thus the winner of the primary is all but assured to win in the general election,” stated Matt Sowash of MLC. The winner of the general election will serve the remainder of the term, ending January 1, 2019. The unofficial candidate listing is as follows:
Democratic
Republican
