Governor Announces Special Election

Governor Rick Snyder has called for a special election to fill the 4^th Senate District Seat, which was left vacant following the resignation of former State Senator Virgil Smith. The special primary election will be held on August 2, 2016 and the special general election will be held on November 8, 2016. The winner of the election will serve the remainder of Mr. Smith’s term through 2018.

The 4^th Senate District is comprised of Allen Park, Lincoln Park, Southgate, and a portion of the City of Detroit.
