Governor Appeals Federal Funding Denial

Mar 04, 2016

On Thursday, Governor Rick Snyder submitted an appeal to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for assistance denied under the original request for emergency.  The governor is requesting funding from the Category B program for emergency protective measures and the Individuals and Household Program, saying the response to the Flint water crisis requires a continued effort from all local, state, federal, and national partners.  Category B funding is targeted to protect public health and safety, covering costs for food, water, and other essential needs.  In addition, it can provide financial aid for the removal of health and safety hazards, the activation of state or local emergency operations centers, and emergency measures to protect further damage.  The Individuals and Household Program provides funding for homeowners to repair damage from a disaster that is not covered by insurance.
