Repeal on Tax on Residential Energy Usage Introduced

Legislation canceling the tax charged on residential energy usage was introduced this week, with the goal of helping residents afford energy costs. Introduced by Senator Michele Hoitenga (R-Manton) and Senator Roger Hauck (R-Mt. Pleasant), the package specifically exempts residential use of electricity, natural or artificial gas, or home heating fuels from the state’s sales and use taxes. The bills were referred to the Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection for consideration.
