Democratic Caucuses Highlight Priorities

This week, members of the House and Senate Democratic caucuses introduced the first bills for the new term. This is significant, as the first pieces of legislation every term tend to highlight where a caucuses priorities lay. Legislation was introduced in both the House and Senate for each of the policy items listed below.

- Repeal the retirement tax on seniors
- Increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
- Expand the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act
- Restore the state’s prevailing wage law
- Repeal Right to Work
- Repeal Michigan’s criminalization of abortion care

The bills were formally introduced on Thursday, and each will be referred for consideration to the committee for which there is purview of the issue.
