Through the general election on November 3, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.
District Overview
The 38th House District is located on the southwest side of Michigan, including portions of Allegan, Berrien, and Van Buren Counties.
Commentary
This newly drawn district is a near 50/50 split, with the Democratic Party having a slight advantage with a 51% base. However, even the Republican portions of the base are fairly moderate. Two political newcomers are running in the seat; however Republican Kevin Whiteford is the husband of current state Representative Mary Whiteford, who is serving her third and final term in the House, which will provide him with some helpful name ID and campaign insight.
