General Election Overview: 32nd Senate District

Through the general election on November 8^th, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 32^nd Senate District includes Benzie, Mason, and Oceana Counties and portions of Manistee and Muskegon Counties.

Commentary

This district is a near 50/50 split, which includes Muskegon, has a Democratic base of 50.2%. Senator Bumstead is running for a second term after serving several terms in the House. He’s moving into this district after his previous district was redrawn. Representative Sabo is challenging him following three terms in the House, as well as stints in local government.

Democratic Candidate:

Representative Terry Sabo – State representative, Air Force Veteran, former fire fighter and police officer, former Muskegon County Commissioner.

Republican Candidate:

Senator Jon Bumstead – State senator, former state representative, owns a construction firm.
