General Election Overview: 11th Senate District

Through the general election on November 8^th, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 11^th Michigan Senate District is located in southeast Michigan. The district includes portions of Macomb and Wayne counties, Eastpointe, Fraser, Roseville, and portions of Detroit and Clinton and Macomb Townships.

Commentary

Republicans have a slight edge in this seat with a 53% base. Senator MacDonald is running for a second term in office in a newly drawn district. His opponent, Veronica Klinefelt, has held a number of local elected offices throughout her public service career, which will help to boost her name recognition against an incumbent.

Democratic Candidate:

- Veronica Klinefelt – Macomb County Commissioner, former East Detroit School Board member, former Eastpointe City Councilwoman and mayor pro-tem.

Republican Candidate:

- Senator Mike MacDonald – State Senator, former financial representative, and vice president of the Michigan Air Force Association.
