Commentary

Five candidates are running in next month’s primary election for the opportunity to challenge Governor Gretchen Whitmer this November. The candidate pool was cut in half after five primary candidates were disqualified from the race. A lot of their campaigning has centered on who is the most conservative candidate and is most vocal in speaking out against the policies of the current administration, namely the shutdowns that occurred in the beginning of the pandemic. Additionally, onlookers are waiting to see if former President Donald Trump makes a late endorsement in the race.

Tudor Dixon has racked up a number of endorsements including the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, and Michigan Congressional members Congressman Bill Huizenga and Congresswoman Lisa McClain.

Republican Candidates:

    • Tudor Dixon -Conservative media personality, worked in the steel industry.
    • Ryan Kelley – Real estate broker, former Allendale Township Planning Commissioner.
    • Ralph Rebandt – Pastor, serves as chaplain for several state and local police organizations.
    • Kevin Rinke – Automotive dealership owner.
    • Garrett Soldano – Chiropractor, author.
