An annual report providing a deep dive into efforts underway by the state to drive progress toward addressing the challenges facing the lakes and Michigan water resources was released. The 2020 State of the Great Lakes was developed by the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Office of the Great Lakes (OGL). Topics within the report include coping with high water levels, addressing nutrients and harmful algal blooms, and the threat that climate change poses to the lakes and other water resources.
The OGL is tasked with protecting and restoring Michigan’s waters. It partners with local, state, and regional entities to support efforts to promote sustainable communities, restore degraded waters, manage water quality and quantity, and prevent aquatic invasive species.
